KEY WEST MARLIN 2023: COWBOY COWGIRL SPORTFISHING CHARTERS

The Key West Marlin Tournament in July 2023 was a big success for Cowboy Cowgirl Sportfishing Charters. Our boat, Sanctuary, proudly took 3rd place in the Marlin division. This achievement was supported by the great performance of our Cowgirl charter. It stood out in both the Wahoo and Tuna divisions. As we reflect on this exhilarating event, we’re already filled with anticipation for the 2024 tournament.
The tournament is a key event in Key West’s fishing calendar. It started with the captain’s meeting on July 19, 2023. This was followed by three days of intense fishing on July 20, 21, and 22. This important event drew around 175 anglers on 32 boats. Each one competed for top honors, showing their skill and sportsmanship.
Our team’s highlight was the Sanctuary, expertly skippered by A. J. Barry. Sanctuary is part of the famous Cowboy Cowgirl fishing fleet in Key West. It took third place after our angler, Craig Vaughn from Richardson, Texas, released a huge blue marlin. This marlin was estimated to weigh 250 pounds. This marlin was the first offshore fish caught by Vaughn. It was not just a catch; it symbolized the spirit and thrill of deep-sea fishing.
The 2023 Key West Marlin Tournament was more than just a competition. It was part of the annual Hemingway Days festival. This festival celebrates the famous author Ernest Hemingway and his love for fishing. Hemingway lived and wrote in Key West in the 1930s. He loved fishing, and this tournament honors his passion for the sport.
Looking ahead, the dates for the 2024 Key West Marlin Tournament have been announced as July 17-20. It promises to be another exciting part of this event’s rich history. Cowboy Cowgirl Sportfishing Charters is ready to join in again. We congratulate all the local boats that took top spots this year. We look forward to more friendly competition and fun on the high seas next year.
